It was on Callie and Mark’s five year anniversary that Mark surprised Callie by proposing to her in their own private pod at the top of the London Eye. Callie says, ‘As we got in the pod, I said to Mark that we got lucky to get one to ourselves!’ She didn’t suspect a thing and that made it all the more special as he got down on one knee, and gave Callie a beautiful ring that he had designed himself.
When it came to planning their wedding, they knew they wanted a timeless and classic wedding, with white flowers and blue touches. They chose Winters Barns, near Canterbury, as their venue for both the ceremony and reception because they wanted to get married outside and they fell in love with the beautiful courtyard.
Callie wore a stunning fitted Enzoani dress with sparkling straps and detailing across the back, whilst Mark wore a suave Ted Baker suit from Moss Bros, with personal touches such as their names and the wedding date on the inside pocket, and green under his collar, as green was Callie’s grandfather’s favourite colour. The personal details were particularly important to them, as Callie explains: ‘My bouquet was wrapped in my grandad’s tie, the tie he would have worn to our wedding. I also had a little blue heart on the bottom of my shoe, made from one of his shirts.’ They also had a display of photo frames full of pictures of the two of them with the guests and with people who couldn’t be there on the day.
Music is very important to both Callie and Mark, so they had Piano DJ play during the ceremony, which Callie says was very romantic. She is also a huge Elvis fan so she had an Elvis song playing as she walked down the aisle and had a fabulous pink Cadillac to take her to the venue!
They both come from big families, which meant they had plenty of bridesmaids and page boys, including their own son to be involved in the wedding, which added such a personal touch. Callie says that walking down the aisle was the most memorable part of the day for her: ‘As I was waiting to walk down the aisle, I could hear the piano playing, the weather was beautiful and I was just so excited… seeing Mark’s face was everything, I could finally see him and start the next chapter.’
For any future brides, Callie recommends planning well and being organised, but also to ‘soak up every moment [and] dance lots!’ - definitely good advice!
Mark and Callie recently celebrated their first anniversary in lockdown, with an online family quiz (wedding-themed, of course!). They have also recently celebrated the arrival of their second child, a gorgeous little girl.
Huge congratulations to you all! x
