David really took Carly by surprise when they were having a quiet break on a riverboat and he got down on one knee to pop the question; this was followed by a quick phone call to Carly’s dad for David to ask for his blessing, when her dad asked David if he was sure, as she was a lot to take on! In her own words - ‘charming!’.
Carly and David chose the beautiful St Julian’s Club, near Sevenoaks, for their ceremony and reception, and they knew they wanted their wedding to be personal and reflect them; Carly says, ‘We love the outdoors and wanted a simple woodland theme. We made a lot ourselves using things from our garden and kept the colour scheme green and white. A lot of things were made using slices of wood including our ring holder, table centres, seating plan and cake stand’. Carly also made the wedding cake herself (!) and David’s mother made the name cards shaped like leaves. One particular feature that I love and think is incredibly touching, is to have a single rose in a vase on each table; Carly and David did this in tribute to Carly’s grandma who would do this to remember loved ones.
Carly says that she felt so nervous walking down the aisle that she can barely remember it, but having David squeeze her hand as she reached him at the end of the aisle is one of the most memorable parts of the day for it. The other part of the day that sticks in her mind, is playing with their little boy on the swings at the venue’s playground; ‘I had barely seen him all day and we just spent some time with him having lots of fun and pretending my dress wasn't covered in mud!’.
For other couples planning their weddings, Carly and David say to ‘listen to your own instincts and stick to your guns about what you as a couple want your day to be. There is a lot of pressure planning the day and you want to be able to relax and enjoy it. On the day just accept whatever happens and don't get hung up on the little things. Also don't put a 2 year old in a white shirt!!!’
They also highly recommend their wedding suppliers, saying ‘our wedding suppliers exceeded all of our expectations. Not only did they do an exceptional job, they were all so patient and had loads of tips to share in so many areas. I really lacked confidence about wearing the dress and from my dress fitting, hair/make up and photography they made me feel more confident and I love looking at my photos to remember it all’.
